Taxi

Kolkata has 3/4 type of Taxi services but most economical and oldest one is a yellow ambassador Taxis with black border (non A/C) and these are easily available. The fare of these taxis is calculated on the basic of its Meter which start at Rs.10. Total is calculated on its total meter reading which will multiplied by 2 plus Rs.2. Suppose your total meter reading is Rs.20 then multiplied 2 plus Rs.2 which comes to Rs.42.

Minimum Fare Rs.22 upto 2 Kms then Rs.10 per Km


Metro Railway

Kolkata "Metro Railway" is a first underground rail in India which started in the year of 1995. Its single route of 16.45 kms in length which connects North and South of the city, from Dumdum to TollyGunge. It is the most convenient, reliable and efficient way of transportation to beat the city traffic. Trains run every 10-15 minutes. It runs from 8 a.m. to 9.45 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and 2 p.m to 9.45 p.m. on Sunday

Fare : 0-5 kms = Rs4, 5-10 kms = Rs.6, 10-15 = Rs.8, 15-20 = Rs.10 & 20+ kms = Rs.12

Bus

Bus services run by private, CSTC (Calcutta State Transport Corporation), CTC (Calcutta Tramways Company) and WBSTC (West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation). Bus fare are very cheap compare to other metropolitan city of India. Fare start's from Rs.5.


Auto Rickshaw

Auto-Rickshaw's does not run on meter. It has fix rates which you need to ask Auto-Rickshaw driver as every Auto-rickshaw has fixed routes and every routes has different rates. every Auto-rickshaw will take 3 passenger on back seat and 1 beside driver. Minimum Fare is Rs.5


Rickshaw

Kolkata has Human Pulled & Cycle Rickshaw. Long the world's only major metropolis where human-pulled rickshaws were still a major form of transport, a complete ban was supposed to be imposed in November 2006 but with 35,000 union members who are unlikely to disappear overnight it was not implemented.


Tram

Calcutta Tramways" is the only tram service in all of India, and the oldest surviving electric tram network of Asia. Though decommissioned in some part of the city, electric trams are still one of the means of traveling between a few places within the city. They move slow on the laid tracks in traffic jammed streets, but they are environment friendly (no emissions on the street, only at the source of energy generation).
